The Hidden Blasphemy in Media: Celebrity Brands I Avoid as a Christian
Do Not Conform To The Ways of The World.
Before becoming a Christian, I would side-eye those who took mocking Jesus seriously. After all, it seemed like harmless jokes, right? But when you step back and look at the media, there’s a pattern of constant mockery of Christ. At some point, we have to question why this is so normalized.
Like many, I listened to music without paying much attention to the lyrics or the emotions they stirred within me. I’d watch television without a second thought about the content. But once I began walking with Christ, my perspective shifted. Discernment became crucial, and I could no longer ignore the subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways the media dishonors Jesus.
Eyes Opened: My Journey of Discernment
After becoming a Christian, even before being baptized, my eyes started opening. I began to see the world in a whole new light. As 2 Corinthians 4:4 reminds us, “The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers.” The mockery of Christ isn’t random—it comes from the Prince of this world, Satan, who uses entertainment and culture to desensitize us to what grieves the Lord.
Why is it acceptable to praise Satan on stages, wear devil costumes, or mock Christ by wearing an upside-down cross? Why do some celebrities reenact the crucifixion in blasphemous ways? Meanwhile, thanking Jesus is seen as controversial or even bleeped out on public platforms. Doesn’t this hypocrisy make you pause? Why is evil celebrated while faith in Jesus is censored? Make it make sense.
A Deeper Look at Entertainment’s Influence
Before his fall, Satan was a highly regarded angel, often associated with music and worship. Is it any wonder that so much of today’s music and entertainment seems to glorify everything but God? Have you ever wondered why certain symbols—like the covering of one eye or sticking out tongues—are so prevalent? These aren’t just creative choices; they’re often rooted in deeper meanings that go against God.
When celebrities mention Christ at award shows, they are met with silence or discomfort. Yet, when they promote ideologies or practices that contradict Scripture, they are celebrated. This cultural dynamic makes it clear that what the world praises is often opposed to what pleases the Lord.
Celebrity Brands I No Longer Support As A Christian
This isn’t about conspiracy theories but about discernment. Many of these celebrities openly mock Christ or promote values that conflict with biblical principles. Here are some brands I’ve chosen to avoid:
Lady Gaga (Haus Labs): Her performances and imagery often mock Christianity and Christian symbols. (Have you seen the lyrics to Judas?)
Rihanna (Fenty/SavagexFenty): Lyrics and branding often align with worldly values over godly ones.
Billie Eilish (Fragrances): Her music and public appearances promote darkness over light.
Ariana Grande (R.E.M Beauty): Her imagery and messaging conflict with Christian beliefs. She has openly called herself a witch.
Beyoncé (Ivy Park/Cécred): She often references alternative spiritual practices in her lyrics and performances. (Eg: using bible pages as pads)
Alicia Keys (Keys Soulcare): She promotes spiritual practices that stray from biblical truth. Mostly New Age practices.
Taraji P. Henson (TPJ by Taraji): Similar themes in branding and messaging. She has also admitted to allowing spirits to enter her body for a role.
These decisions aren’t made lightly. As Christians, we’re called to honor God in every area of our lives, including what we support with our dollars.
The Common Thread Among Celebrities
Ironically, many of these celebrities grew up in the church. But as we know, growing up in the church doesn’t exempt anyone from pain, suffering, or the temptations of the world. Jesus reminds us in John 16:33: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
The world rewards those who conform to its standards and shames those who stand firm in Christ. This is why it’s so important for us to pray for these artists and those in Hollywood. They need salvation, just as we once did. As we know, no one is ever too far from God's love.
Take Heart: The Lord Is With You
We’re not called to judge but to discern and pray. Seeing these patterns in media and entertainment should grieve us, but it should also drive us to intercede for those who are lost. The mockery of Christ isn’t “just art”—it’s blasphemy. But we serve a God who is greater than the world and who desires that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9).
As Christians, let’s choose to support brands, music, and content that honor God. Let’s stand firm in our faith and remember that our battle isn’t against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). Pray for these celebrities and Hollywood. Most importantly, continue to seek the Lord in all you do.
By doing this, we can shine His light in a world that so desperately needs it.
God bless,
